This tapestry was commissioned by President Ben Griffin for the administrative offices at Andover Newton Theological School in 1997. Given that the word “seminary” derives from the Latin word for “seed.” If you slice a bulb lengthwise, you will see the pattern of its future flower. In a similar way, the seminary is seeking to nurture people into the full flowering of their ministry. The form of this flower also suggests the shape of the communion chalice so central in ministry. The entire piece lies against the background colors of purple and blue—the School’s colors. It is now with the School’s collection at Yale Divinity School’s campus.
