“Shekina” is the Hebrew word for God’s presence “dwelling” among us. Here this dwelling is related to Wisdom, “Hokma,” who is known as a feminine aspect of God. She “renews all things; in every generation she passes into holy souls and makes them friends of God, and prophets” (Wisdom of Solomon 7:27). The starburst in the center with the English word Shekina is composed of two overlapping squares representing heaven and earth. The whole symbol is rounded at the corners to give a sense of movement. Threads of red, purple and gold—key liturgical colors—surround the piece. A border of Indian coconut fibers borders the silk and cotton of the interior construction. 38″ X 38″
