Wings of the Spirit

This small hanging is composed of a square of cotton made with hot wax batik method, which I had learned during our sabbatical time in India. The batik is mounted on a linen background and enhanced with free-form embroidery and beads.

This piece was constructed in 1993 and was purchased by Prof. James Gustafson and his wife Louise. It has special significance for me since I served as his assistant while he was a University Professor at Emory University at that time. He was also a key teacher, mentor, and friend for my husband Bill. After his death in Albuquerque NM in 2021. I assume it passed to one of his children. Approximately 20″ x 30″.
