The Gospels

These four Gospel panels were made for First United Methodist Church, Waynesville, in 2002 in response to a request from the Pastor, Lyn  Sorrells. The primary theme on each panel is a large Methodist cross and flame. Each panel also features the traditional symbols associated with one of the four gospel writers: Matthew as a human being, Mark as a lion, Luke as an ox, and John as an eagle. While individually painted, they share a common color scheme of green for ordinary time, red for the fire of Pentecost, and gold for the gospel. They are painted front and back, to be visible from the choir and pulpit area as well as the congregation. They are cut from 90# drawing vellum. Each panel is 4 ft by 10 feet. I designed them and made them with several women who helped with the cutting and painting.
