This mosaic portrays a detail of the mosaic on an archway entrance to the 5th Century tomb of Galla Placidia behind the church of St. Vitale in Ravenna, Italy. I was struck by the modern feel of both the geometric design and the vibrancy of the colors. It leads on into the spectacular tomb of this early Roman Empress with its starry dark blue vaulted ceiling and milky alabaster windows. Collection of the artist. 13”X17”.
