This Lenten reflection was created from materials found during a walk in the woods around The Meeting House at Andover Newton Theological School. They include a piece of weathered wood, bits of wire and a broken Coke bottle. The bottom of the coke bottle is embossed with New Bedford (Massachusetts). The theme and title were inspired by a song by Darrell Adams entitled “Jesus would have loved El Paso,” because, sings Adams, “it’s a lot like his home town.” The piece is an example of making art from found materials and turning rejected items into something of meaning or beauty. This one suggests a crucifixion, whether of Jesus or of the culture more broadly.
